Stigma and disapproving attitudes often associated with hepatitis are unjustified, and the available mechanisms for testing, treating and cures are easy to access.
I heard the Hepatitis story from a Rotary Melbourne colleague who has a long and distinguished career in the health industry, and who feels passionately that Rotary has a significant role to play in educating the community about Hepatitis – about the tests, preventative treatments and cures that are readily available.
My career has been largely in the media industry, but in recent years I have worked as a mentor to senior executives across a wide range of industries, supporting their professional and personal development.
I have been an active member of Rotary Melbourne, the first and largest Rotary Club in Australia, for the past 13 years, and was privileged to be chosen as President in 2018-19.
Having become aware of the potential opportunities for Rotary Melbourne to start building a program for Rotary Clubs in Victoria, we established an ‘End Hepatitis Now’ project, and I have been happy to back the efforts of Dr Peter Clark, Penny Trumble and others on the team working with Hepatitis Victoria to make a real difference through education.
